Comprising of 22 stages and expanding over 300 kilometers – The Pekoe Trail is a long-distance hiking route that weaves through the heart of the hill country that can be completed as a multi-day excursion.
This unique trail promises an immersive and sustainable approach in discovering Sri Lanka on foot and is now made easier with their newly introduced app.

Key features that set The Pekoe Trail app apart from other travel or hiking apps
The Pekoe Trail app is the only dedicated app exclusively for The Pekoe Trail.
It offers turn by turn navigation and trail information and also features points of interest along the trail. In addition, audio stories in some areas, closest emergency services (i.e. police stations, hospitals) and the app also allows hikers to purchase/reserve their passes through the app.
The Pekoe Trail app also has an emergency call button that puts hikers directly through to 119 and 118.
Suitability for both seasoned and beginners interested in exploring the trek
The app is suitable for all hikers.
Seasoned hikers who are used to traveling independently can navigate themselves easily with the app but beginners will also be navigated with ease, indicating to hikers if ever they veer off the path.
The other features are also value additions to the experience.
Offline functionality
The app has offline maps available making navigation simpler.
As with all navigational apps, it is advised that hikers download the offline maps before embarking on the hike.
There is reasonable coverage through about 75% of the trail.
Developments are ongoing to increase the network connectivity along the trail to ensure the emergency features can be used.
Information provided about the Trail (e.g., distance, difficulty, estimated time)
The app gives the distance, starting point, end point, a feature to take you from where you are to the starting point, estimated time taken, elevation map, detailed information about each stage, images of the stage, points of interest directly on the trail and a little off the trail, reviews, passes and completed badges.

The app is only in English at the moment.
Accuracy on providing real-time updates on weather, trail conditions, or other important details
The app does not have a weather widget yet but the app has enabled us to send out push notifications to all app users when there is any reason for concern such as dangerously high rainfall, potential forest fires, landslides, fallen trees or any other obstructions.
Ability to book tours, accommodations, or transportation along the Pekoe Trail
At the moment, only passes can be booked.
However, In the future it will also allow hikers to book accommodation that is accredited by the organization as well as accredited guides. We will also be marking the emergency exit points for the ease and safety of hikers.
